The move will allow Shazam, which is best know for its music recognition service and apps, to offer its users the ability to tag and discover the latest tracks from South Asian artists in Bollywood and other popular genres including bhangra, devotional, ghazals, Carnatic, and Indipop, among others and music in regional languages including Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, and Bhojpuri. The company mentions that the database will continue to grow, adding thousands of new and exclusive tracks every week.
Shazam has announced a partnership with India focused online music streaming service Saavn, under which Saavn's music library has been incorporated into Shazam's music database.
